Unfinished Hardwood Flooring
unfinished hardwood
Even thou the array of
prefinished hardwood flooring available on the market is so great, you may feel that there is simply
nothing that you like...
If that's the case, you must be very picky... just kidding! Hey, I'm one of those people, who just prefer
the on-site finished floors. If you are like me, the sky is your limit! You must remember however,
that by choosing the unfinished hardwood flooring you will be sacrificing the quality of the finish, but
still will be getting a superior, high quality product.
Unfinished Hardwood Flooring, is a real wood floor that is first installed in your home and then finished
with stain and varnish. This process is quite loud and messy and definitely long, but your patience will be rewarded. Finished floor will be spectacular and one of a kind. It is well worth the effort.
Here you need to endure the noise of the sander, that usually produces quite a bit of dust. Most reputable
professionals own sanders that implement dust control systems, but only a few can be proud of dust free
machines that will not pollute your home with harmful wood particles. Then there is the smell of stain, sometimes overwhelmingly sweet, then couple of days latter the smell of varnish, your choice of oil based or water based, one worst then the other... Once you get past that, you can look forward to the... drying of
your floor finish.
Here you have to be very patient. Depending on the weather conditions, finishing procedures and varnish
applications, wood species and wood condition at the time of finishing, the drying process can take up couple
of days.
You can not rush this process... if you do you may end up with all your furniture stuck to the floor. We
had some eager clients, who had to go through the entire process again, because they did not wait long
enough for their floor to dry...
When all of this is done, you will have a beautiful floor finished just the way you like it. It could
look exactly the same like the one you liked so much at your friends home, or it can be one of the kind. The
choice is yours.
