Prefinished Hardwood Flooring

Long are gone the days of waxed hardwood floors. Prefinished Hardwood Flooring is what it's all about today. Selection of different wood species, wood stain colors, finish sheen levels, and durability types available on the market is so great, it can be hard to pick you favorite.

Where do you start?

First, you need to know a little about the characteristics of prefinished hardwood flooring. Prefinished flooring is a factory finished product featuring several layers of UV-cured polyurethane. This means, that the installation is fast and dust free, there is no noisy sanders and buffers... and you do not have to suffer in a urethane smelling environment. You can also move your furniture back in a room very same day.

Those are just few benefits of Factory Finished Flooring, the greatest one is the durability of the finishes available. If you look at the process of installation and finish of unfinished hardwood flooring, you will see that factory finished flooring has a superior finish quality.

Most hardwood flooring brands feature at least 10 precisely applied layers of varnish, some have fine particles of aluminum oxide, which makes the finishes extremely durable.

Having said that, I must advice you that even the most durable prefinished hardwood flooring will not withstand the abuse of dirty shoes, dog nails, and Stiletto heels... If you are looking for miracle hardwood floor, one that will not get damaged, ever... well they didn't invent one yet. But never less, the quality of today's new floors is far grater then ever before.

Not all prefinished hardwood flooring is for everyone. Because most of factory finished hardwood flooring has micro-bevel edges, when floor is installed, those edges will form v-groves between the boards. Those may be smaller or larger depending on the flooring manufacturer. Dirt and grime may collect in those groves if the floor is not maintained properly. V-grove also creates lines on the floor, that may bother some people. That's why some of our clients still prefer smooth finish of hardwood floors that are finished on site.

So have fun choosing, be sure that you know your decorating preferences and your families lifestyle. Well chosen prefinished hardwood floor, will not only add value to your home, it will also make your every day life a lot easier.
